Ram Jethmalani , Mallya win RS polls; BJP bags five seats
The BJP finished on top bagging five seats followed by the Congress four, in the RS biennial polls for 18 seats.The JD (U) got two seats and the JMM, RJD and LJP one each.
Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani, Union minister Anand Sharma, liquor baron Vijay Mallya and LJP supremo Ram Vilas Paswan were elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Jethmalani won on 41 first preference votes in Rajasthan. The independent nominee Mallya win the election and defeat one of the candidates of opposition Congress with the help of ruling BJP with coalition parter JD(S).
BJP's M. Venkaiah Naidu and Ayanur Manjunath were also declared elected along with former Union minister and Congress leader Oscar Fernandes.
